Candida (Alvarado) Torres, age 76, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Sept. 20, 1936 in Puerto Rico. Her parents were the late Irene and Carmen (Hernandez) Alvarado. Candida worked as a golf ball packer for Spalding’s Co for over 25 years before she retired in 1998. She was a communicant of Holy Name of Jesus Parish. She leaves her loving husband of 55 years, Jose L. Torres of Chicopee; 3 daughters, Maria Alvarado of Chicopee, Yvette Torres of Chicopee and Arlyn Rosa and her husband Lui of Chicopee; 5 brothers, Miguel, Hector and Herman Alvarado of Chicopee and Sergio and Ricardo Alvarado of Puerto Rico; 3 sisters, Ines Alicea of Springfield, Santo Rivera of Chicopee and Alsenia Torres of FL; 5 grandchildren, Ryan, Brett, Anthony, Carlos and Marissa , one great grandchild Iyanara and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Irma Alicea. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. from the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian burial in Holy Name of Jesus parish in Assumption Church (104 Springfield St) at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial in St Rose de Lima Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
