Mr. Willard F. “Willie” Amero, age 87, died peacefully on Wednesday May 29, 2013, at the Sunrise of Raleigh Nursing Center in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was the beloved husband of the late Mildred L. (McEleney) Amero.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 30, 1925, he was the beloved son of late Walter F. and Evangeline (Soulnier) Amero. Mr. Amero was a WWII Army veteran, entering the military at Fort Banks, Massachusetts, on January 22, 1946 and receiving his honorable discharge from Fort McPherson, Georgia, on August 7, 1947. While in the Army, Mr. Amero worked as a Duty Soldier and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal for his outstanding service. In civilian life, Mr. Amero served for over 32 years as a Medford Firefighter and he was a former communicant of St. Clement Church in Medford. In his spare time, Mr. Amero enjoyed scuba diving, fishing, relaxing on his boat and working with his hands.
He is survived by his loving children; Daniel J. Amero of Jupiter, Florida, Billy Amero of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Carol A. Ervin of Raleigh, North Carolina, Diane M. Costa of Chelmsford and Linda L. Amero of Palm City, Florida, devoted sister; Mary Guillou of San Clarita, CA five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived the family of his late dear friend; Helen Prior of Stoneham, Massachusetts.
His Funeral Service was celebrated in the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at 10:00 A.M. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment with military honors was held in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
