Melissa Kay Mitchell, 42, of Irwin County, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Saturday, June 1, 2013, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Leroy Spivey and Brother Sammy Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery in Abbeville. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Mitchell was born February 18, 1971, in Coffee County, to Wendell Grantham and the late Barbara Ann Smith Grantham. She was a graduate of Coffee County High School. She was a former canning machine operator for Wayne Farms and was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her son: Buddy Mitchell and his father: Bud Mitchell both of Wray; her father and step-mother: Wendell & Linda Grantham; sister: Teresa (Jesse) Jowers; brother: Shaun (Sandy) Grantham and Wendell (Gail) Grantham, Jr.; step-brother: Peter (Natarie) Cothern; step-sister: Lisa (Jerry) Leavens, all of Douglas; a half sister: Amy (Ronnie) Snipes of Nichols and grandmother: Dessie Mae Stokes of Douglas. She was preceded in death by her mother: Barbara Ann Smith Grantham and her grandmother: Sally Harper.
