Donald R. Furnish
August 8, 1939- May 29, 2013

Donald R. Furnish, 73, of Anderson, died at his home on May 29, 2013 after an extended illness. He was born on August 8, 1939 in Anderson, the son of Reuben and Audrey (Rousey) Furnish.

He served in the US Army Reserves.

He was employed in plant protection and security with Fisher Guide for 26 years. He had also been employed by Behrens Paint Spot and Gaar Nursery prior to his time at Fisher Guide. He was a 50 year member of First Baptist Church in Anderson; and most recently a member of Indian Kentuck Baptist Church in Canaan, IN; He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Lapel Masonic Lodge #625, and also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis. In his younger years he was also active in baseball and golf. Don lived most of his life in Anderson, but following his retirement he resided for 13 years in Canaan, Indiana @ his beloved Cedar Hill Farm.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, M. E. "Beth" (Swinford) Furnish of Anderson, whom he married on May 20, 1960, his five children: Jeff (wife Sharon) Furnish of Austin, TX, Doug (wife Jennifer) Furnish of Cicero, IN, David (wife Tami) Furnish of Fairfax Station, VA, Karrie (Furnish) (husband Brian) House of Anderson, and Kellie (Furnish) (husband Dan) Sheward of Wiesbaden, Germany; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey Furnish, Ashley (Warren) Guidrey, Douglas Furnish II, Jacob (Ashley) Furnish, Drew Furnish, Jenna Furnish, Bella Beckler, Sophia Beckler, Dillon Furnish, Drake House, Aubrey Sheward, Mallory Sheward; sister, Joan (husband Jim) Shephard of Anderson; two brothers-in-law, Steve Swinford of Anderson and Dan Swinford of Mishawaka; several nieces and nephews; extended family Lisa Alexander and A.J. Furnish.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Carolyn Furnish and a sister-in-law, Nancy Swinford.

Services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Anderson, with Rev. Ed Roberts of Canaan officiating. Burial will follow at East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2 from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service with Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. and Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
