John G. Talcott Jr. of Plymouth and Boca Raton, FL. Passed away at his home in Plymouth on May 27, at the age of 105. He leaves his son John G Talcott III of Talcottville, CT; his daughter Rosemary Parks of Plymouth, 7 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was the husband of the late Katherine (Scott) and Rosalin (Voshell).
John was born in Talcottville (Vernon) CT. Feb. 26, 1908, the son of John G. and Florence (White) Talcott. John was educated at Deerfield Academy and Yale University from which he graduated from in 1935 with an AB Degree. John served 9 years on the Vernon, Ct. Board of Education 4 years as Chairman. Served for 5 years as Deputy Chief of Co. #3 Vernon, CT Fire Department. Former Trustee and Incorporator of Springfield College in Springfield, MA. John served in the U.S. Army during WWII and attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant in Overseas Supply Division. Former President of Massachusetts Society for Aiding Discharged Prisoners, founding member of Intercessors of America. John was A Trustee Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, MA since 1971. John was trustee and served on may boards in Plymouth, Founder of Plymouth Rock Foundation, Trustee Fellow and former President of the Pilgrim Society, Chairman of the Plymouth 350th Anniversary Committee, Chairman of the Bi-Centennial Commission, which erected the Bronze Statue of Governor William Bradford, November 25, 1970, Co-Chairman of the 100th Anniversary Committee for the Dedication of the Forefathers Monument in 1989. John was a member of the Old Colony Club since 1970, former director of Ocean Spray Cranberry Co. in 1987 and he was a Mayflower Descendent back to John Chilton. He was also a member of The Park Street Church in Boston.
Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home 373 Court St. (Rte. 3A) N. Plymouth on Friday May 31, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Burial will be Private in Mt. Hope Cemetery Talcotttville, CT. A memorial service will be held at The New Testament Church, 1120 Long Pond Road Plymouth, MA on Friday June 21, at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations in John’s memory may be made to The Plymouth Rock Foundation, 1120 Long Pond Road, Plymouth, MA 02360
