Obituary

Edward F. Hazlin, 90, of Stonington passed away on Saturday, May 18th. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Rita. He is survived by his children Edward Hazlin, Linda Morrill, Eileen Utter, Kenneth Hazlin, David Hazlin and their spouses, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Ed proudly served as a U.S. Navy aviator in the Pacific during WWII earning the rank of Lieutenant J.G. Upon his return he owned and operated Hazlin’s Variety Store as well as the distributorship Edward F. Hazlin & Son.
Ed enjoyed travelling the world with the love of his life, his wife Rita. He recently celebrated his 90th birthday on a European River Cruise with his family.
An avid sports fan Ed gained great pleasure in watching athletes grow and succeed. While in the military Ed and his crew would take rafts and ride the curl of the 40-foot waves often finding themselves upside down in the Hawaiian waters. His own first downhill snow skiing lesson occurred when he was in his 60’s while on a family vacation. Over the years Ed became quite the sailor venturing throughout the waters of New England.
Ed loved all of God’s children and let all choose their own path without judgment. His dog, Maya, was his constant companion since Rita passed.
Ed was a cherished husband and a devout and loving individual as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He truly showed all the secret of living a joyful life.
