Helen M. (Dumas) Hawryluk, 98 of Salem, died Sunday morning, May 26, 2013 at the Devereux House in Marblehead. She was the wife of the late Joseph K. Hawryluk with whom she had shared 60 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Hilarion and Jennie (Chartier) Dumas. Married to Joe in 1935, she devoted her life to her husband and the raising of their family as well as caring for her large extended family.
Helen was an avid bowler and bowled well into her early 90’s. She also enjoyed her membership in the ‘Shindiggers’ square dancing group , as well as bingo and the events at the Salem Council on Aging. She was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish of Salem.
She is survived by her daughter Elaine F. Jirtian and her husband Martin of Lynn, a son, Alan F. Hawryluk of Salem, 3 grandchildren, Lauren Jirtian-Holm of Lynn, Mark Jirtian of Weston, FL, Jeffrey Hale of Fleetwood, PA, 3 great-grandchildren Andres and Gabriella both of Florida, Lilac Hale of Pennsylvania, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Joseph R. Hawryluk, her brothers, Leo, Robert, Albert, Ben & Edward Dumas and sisters, Evelyn Vaughn, Louise Reilley & Hazel Ouellette.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 8:45 A.M. to be followed by her funeral mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem at 10:00 A.M. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
