O’Hern, Jane Susan, Boston University Professor Emeritus of Education, of Jamaica Plain, MA, passed away on May 27, 2013 at the age of 80.
Jane was born in Winthrop, MA on March 21, 1933. After receiving her B.S. from Sargent College at B.U., her Ed.D. from B.U. and her M.A. from Michigan State, Jane embarked on an illustrious career at B.U. as a professor, administrator, and practicing psychologist. Jane’s B.U. career spanned over 40 years and brought her frequently to Europe and Asia, especially Thailand where she still has many friends. During much of her tenure at B.U., she served in multiple roles at the School of Education including those of Director of International Education and chair of programs in counselor education and counseling psychology. In recent years through 2013, Jane worked at the B.U. School of Medicine, Division of Graduate Sciences, Mental Health Counseling and Behavioral Medicine Program.
Jane loved B.U. and her work. But she was also an avid traveler, tennis player, card player, Keno player and a loyal, devoted friend to many. She was full of life, independent, honest, generous, determined, intelligent, funny, stylish and very much loved.
Jane is survived by the Donovan, Kantrowitz, Burke and Nee families and her many friends here in Boston and around the world. Jane was preceded in death by her father Joseph Francis O’Hern, her mother Mona Garvy O’Hern and her brother Joseph F. O’Hern.
The family and friends of Jane wish to thank Hebrew Seniorlife (formerly the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center) for their extraordinary care of her.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 A.M. on Saturday June 15, 2013 in The Holy Name Church, 1689 Centre Street, West Roxbury, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
