Exie Mae Leverett Gay, 85, of Tifton passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at Eureka Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County. Elder Raybon Lord and Elder Jamie Tucker will officiate with burial to follow in the Eureka Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County. Mrs. Gay’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Gay’s granddaughters and her great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mrs. Gay will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Gay was born on December 4, 1927 in Colquitt County to Mamie Ella Dowdy Leverett and William Mickleberry Leverett, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie Lee Gay; two brothers, Elzie Leverett and Daniel Leverett; two sons-in-law, Wesley Clements and Gary Driver; and one great-grand daughter, Justina Gay.
Mrs. Gay enjoyed cooking, sewing and gardening and sending greetings cards to her friends and family. Her grandchildren fondly remember her fresh baked biscuits. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her role as wife, mother and homemaker.
Mrs. Gay is survived by her children and their spouses, Jerry and Linda Gay, Larry and Ruby Gay and Barbara Clements, all of Tifton, Patsy and Mike Williams and Dianne Driver, all of Sycamore; her brother and sister-in-law, Drew and Kim Leverett of Ocilla; her sisters-in-law, Aline Leverett and Genny Gay of Ocilla; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Donnie Gay, Jamie Gay, Stephen and Melinda Clements, Stephanie and Roy Ferrell, Mickie and Amy Williams, Tommy Gay, Serita and Tommy Lindsey, Carrie and Tom Kolze, Chris Gay, Dawn and Billy Hill and Candace Driver; 16 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
