Obituary

Wanda A. (Banas) Ryan “Bobbi”, age 82, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2013 at Baystate Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 2, 1930 in Chicopee. Her parents were the late Wladyslaw and Anna (Tumidajewicz) Banas. She was a communicant of St Patricks Church. She worked at Wesson Womens in the former Springfield Hospital as a medical record coder, until she retired in 1978. Prior to that she worked in Springfield Hospital as a ward clerk, where she was the first clerk to transcribe Doctors orders. She was a member of the Altar –Rosary Society; the Association for the Blind, Springfield Chapter; a former Girl Scout leader, girls soccer coach and lunch monitor as well as an amazing Polish Cook that will be greatly missed (who can we call now for cooking advice?). Life was not easy for Wanda, yet she was a hard worker and expected the same of us. She was a dedicated Red Sox and Celtics fan and loved playing cards with her family. She enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren as they meant the world to her. She leaves her son Allan Ryan and his wife Beth of Chicopee, her daughter Ann Marie Ryan of Springfield, her granddaughter Rosa and 3 great grandchildren, Caitlyn, Christopher and Brennan. She also leaves 2 sister-in-laws Genevieve Banas and Helen Banas and many nieces and nephews, including 2 God daughters, Carol Carroll and Dr Gloria Krason. She is predeceased by her son David Ryan, her daughter Linda Ryan, 4 brothers Maxim, Tadeuz, Joseph and Frank Banas and 3 sisters, Eugenia Kazmierczak, Gladys Rucki and Jane Krason. Calling hours will be held on the morning of the funeral, Wednesday, May 29, 2013 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St Patrick Church at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow in St Stanislaus Cemetery.
