Obituary

Gladys Brumett Guthrie, 85 of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday May 25, 2013.

She was the former Gladys Evelyn Brumett. Gladys was a native of Shelby County, KY and a former member of the former Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Gladys met and married her husband Hugh Guthrie while attending Lindsay Wilson College. She graduated from LWC in 1951 and taught school in Simpsonville, KY for one year. She then moved with Hugh to Albany, KY to farm. Gladys and Hugh moved back to Louisville five years later to farm on the Kennedy farm for five years. Gladys started working for Greyhound in 1956 then retired from Greyhound after twenty years of service. She served her church as coordinator for the Joyful Seniors and formerly as a member of the SPRC committee and the United Methodist church conference as delegate. Gladys was a current member of Mosaic United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Hugh Guthrie; two sons Barry (Pam) of Knoxville, TN; Dennis (Jocelyn) of Hope, MI; three brothers and one sister, Robert (Sharon), David (Sherry), Peggy (Vernie), Donnie (Mary); four grandchildren, Tara (Zeb), Adam (Sonya), Bartholomew, Caleb (Christin); five great grandchildren; Brian, Jason, Keegan, Evan, Madison.

She is preceded in death by her sister Alice Joy and two brothers William Henry Jr, Gene Arnold and her parents Thelma Catherine and William Henry.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 29 at Owen Funeral Home 5317 Dixie Hwy with burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens also on Dixie Hwy. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday May 28 at Owen Funeral Home.
