TEWKSBURY: Catherine M. (Rizzo) Moniz, age 91, a resident of Blaire House of Tewksbury since September of 2003, died Saturday, August 14, 2004.
She was the widow of Alfred J. Moniz who died in 1941.
Born in Boston on April 27, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Salvatoro and Olympia (Maranno) Rizzo.
Mrs. Moniz was raised on Poplar Street in Somerville.
She attended Somerville schools.
Mrs. Moniz later moved to Lexington where she lived for 30 years. While living in Lexington she attended St. Bridget’s Church.
In 1957, she returned to Somerville and attended St. Margaret’s Parish.
Mrs. Moniz dedicated her adult life to raising her family.
She enjoyed many activities including; music, dancing and shopping.
She is survived by 2 daughters; Joan L. Ryan and her husband John of Tewksbury and Joyce L. Peters and her husband Craig of Columbia, CT; 2 sons; Robert Moniz of Las Vegas, NV and Ronald Moniz and his wife Janice of Waltham; 1 brother; Joseph Rizzo and his wife Florence of Somerville; 8 grandchildren; John W. Ryan, Jr. and Alfred Ryan, Joan Scibilia, Kathleen Ryan, Darlene Lamon, Erin Peters, Jenna Henderson, and Alfred Moniz; 9 great grandchildren; David and Victoria Scibilia, Angela, Michael, Alfred Ryan, Jr., Amy and William Ryan, Jennifer Harris and Alex Lamon; 2 great great grandchildren; Arianna and Tyrone Harris; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Moniz was the sister of the late Grace Bluteau, Caroline Allen, Mary Rizzo, Tony, Fred and Frankie Rizzo.
Calling hours Monday 5-8 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Funeral Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home. Funeral Mass Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. William’s Church 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
