Obituary

Frances was born to Dr. Francis and Anita Welch in Somerville, Massachusetts. She attended St. Theresa’s School, Somerville High School, and graduated from Salem State Teachers College.
During war time, Frances was a volunteer with the GSO social organization offering dances and companionship for soldiers. Her love of music, dancing, and song made this a wonderful time in her life.
In 1947 she married Martin J. Laughlin from Gary Indiana, now deceased. Frances may best remembered for her love of family, friends, and deep belief in her Catholic faith. Her inclination to always see the best in people rather than their flaws defined Frances’ character. It was said by many, she was the kindest person they have ever met.
Although, she loved teaching second graders, her family came first. Frances was a proud and devoted mother to Martin F. Laughiin, deceased in 2008. Her strong faith sustained her during this enormous loss. Frances’s daughter Joanne (Laughlin) Coffin, son-in law David Coffin and Frances’ granddaughter Danica Coffin were fortunate to have been with Frances up to the time of her passing. Fortunate to have shared to Frances’ joys, worries, illnesses, fears and jokes!
Frances is predeceaseded by her ‘baby’ brother Albert J. Welch in 2011. So close were they, she knew Al had passed away without being told.
Frances is survived by her dear and thoughtful daughter in law, Sharon R. Laughlin, who kept in touch these many years. Frances’ (Sis) grandchildren: Martin S. and Holly Laughlin, Sheila (Laughlin) and Peter Morrison, John and Denise Laughlin, Ryan Laughlin, also Aprille (Williams) and Jason Barnhart, Sarah (Williams) and Michael Gartler, and Danica Coffin. Sis’ great grandchildren include Bailey, Katelyn, Mia, Avery Kate, Landon, Quinn, Violette, Allyson and baby Daniel.
