Obituary

CHICOPEE – Armand J. “Pepe” Geoffroy, 98, a longtime resident of Sunnyside Street in the Chicopee Falls section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Friday, May 24, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at Loomis House in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving wife, Rita, his family, and his wonderful caregivers. He was born at home on Depot Street in Chicopee on January 18, 1915, a beloved son of the late Hercules and Lucia (Babineau) Geoffroy. He was raised in Chicopee, graduated in 1934 from Chicopee High School and lived in Chicopee Falls for most of his life. Armand retired in 1982 as a production manager at the former Chicopee Manufacturing Company which later became the Facemate Corporation. Armand was an avid sportsman and was a well known Ice Hockey Player. He enjoyed the sport until he was well into his 90’s and played in many of the local hockey leagues. He also played in the Massachusetts Senior Games, the Senior Olympics at Lake Placid, New York and at the Charles Schultz International Ice Hockey Tournament in Santa Rosa, California. He was also an avid golfer and truly enjoyed meeting up with his many friends at Wyckoff Country Club in Holyoke. During his younger years, he also enjoyed tennis and bowling. Active in his faith, he was a longtime member of the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls. He served his parish in many capacities including a Senior Altar Server, a Lector, a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Church Choir and the League of the Sacred Heart. He was currently a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69 and a Fourth Degree member of the Father Daniel Doyle Assembly, both in Chicopee. He leaves the love of his life, his wife, Rita I. (Yargeau) Geoffroy. They were married on September 13, 1941 at the former Saint George Church in Chicopee Falls and were blessed with over 71 years of happiness together. He also leaves his five loving children, Dolores A. Geoffroy of Dunedin, FL, Suzanne Holdsworth of Chicopee, Donald F. Geoffroy and his wife, Janice, of Southwick, George M. Geoffroy of Lyndonville, VT, and Marianne R. Nicoli of Chicopee; his seven cherished grandchildren, Lydia and Scott, Jason and Allison, Eric, and Kara and Kevin; his six cherished great-grandchildren, Michael and Danielle, Michael, Tyler and Linsey, and Armand; his two dear brothers, Edmond Geoffroy and his wife, Irene, and Raymond Geoffroy of Springfield; his three dear sisters, Lena Connors, Cecile Benard and her husband, Edward, and Rhea Plourde, all of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brothers and his dear sister, Leodore and Albert Geoffroy, and Lillian Messier. His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, May 29, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance is located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
