John W. Floyd, Jr.

Harlem- U.S. Marine Corp retired First Sergeant John W. “Jack” Floyd, Jr., 83, husband of Betty Jean Floyd, entered into rest Wednesday, May 22, 2013.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 2:00 PM at the Paulk Funeral Home, 301 S. Main Street, Fitzgerald, Ga. with graveside services following at 3:00 PM in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald, Ga., with the Reverend Andrew Benjamin Floyd officiating with full military honors accorded.

Jack was born in Fitzgerald, Ga. to the late John W. Floyd, Sr. and Odell Fletcher Luke. He had retired from the United States Marine Corp having served in the Korean War and Vietnam. He was the recipient of numerous distinguished awards and medals including the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Valor and the Purple Heart Award. After his retirement with the Marine Corp, Jack served his government in the Civil Service Fire Department at Fort Gordon, Ga. and Hunter Army Base in Savannah, Ga. With his retirement of the Marine Corp and Civil Service Fire Dept., Jack served his country with over 44 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Gaines Floyd; one son James Michael Floyd and his wife Susan of Watkinsville, Ga; two sisters Betty Nell (Bobby) Whitley, Fitzgerald and Sue Newman, Marietta, Ga.; two grandsons, Rev. Andrew Benjamin (Natalie) Floyd of Chattanooga, TN and Stephen Michael (Holly) Floyd of Smyrna, Ga.; and one great-grandson Zachary Floyd.
