John J. Hawkins of Jamaica Plain, formerly of Allston and Newton, May 20, 2013. Devoted son of the late Katherine (O’Hara) Hawkins of Allston, formerly of Co. Leitrim, Ireland and the late Michael B. Hawkins of Allston, formerly of Co. Down, N. Ireland. Loving brother of the late Michael B. Hawkins, Jr. of Allston and Jamaica Plain and the late Paul Cahill of Maryland. Former husband of Margaret “Peg” (McCarthy) Hawkins of Duxbury, with whom he shared six loving children who survive him and one deceased. Loving father of Michael of Middletown, RI, Kate Lyons of Pomona, MO, Sean of Milford, Eileen of Natick, Meg Lanagan of Mansfield, Liam of West Roxbury, and the late Martin Joseph. Doting grandfather to fifteen dearly beloved grandchildren. Dear father-in-law to Janet (McGowan) Hawkins of Middletown, Donald Lyons of Pomona, Wendy (Brienza) Hawkins of Milford, Matthew Bayley of Natick and Brian Lanagan of Mansfield. Devoted uncle to nine beloved nieces and nephews of the Cahill family of Maryland. A proud steward of his cherished Irish heritage and a man of tolerance and kindness throughout his life. Retired educator and librarian with many years of service at Bunker Hill Community College and other schools throughout the Boston area. Funeral from the Brady & Fallon Funeral Home 10 Tower St. (Opp. Forest hills MBTA Station) Jamaica Plain on Thursday May 23 at 9:15 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas Aquinas Church 95 South St. Jamaica Plain at 10 AM. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-8 PM. Burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
