Obituary

Marjorie L. Nicholson peacefully passed away in the home in which she had lived for 60 years on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the age of 87. Margie leaves her loving daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dick Devitt; her devoted niece, Karen Serroni; her grandchildren, Liz and Patrick Devitt, along with many other caring relatives and friends.
Marjorie was born in Putnam, CT but spent most of her life in Marshfield, graduating from MHS in 1943. She worked hard both as a waitress and in retail. Margie and her husband Sherm, a gifted woodworker, took years to build their humble home which remained a source of great pride to them.
Marjorie’s talent at designing and decorating took center stage during her lifetime. Sites where her skills were on exhibit included area craft shows and the main lobby of South River School. Each November, at the Sacred Heart Holly Berry Fair, Marjorie filled two tables with her quality craft work. Impressed buyers formed lines to purchase her items. South River School’s lobby showcase featured a monthly display, created by Marjorie, which highlighted an upcoming event or a seasonal theme. The children, staff, and parents looked forward to the unveiling of each one and commented on both the skill and imagination that went into them.
Margie was an avid gardener. Her sense of color and patterns produced a welcoming introduction to the Nicholson home site, which was often the location of family gatherings. She was an excellent cook and her renowned Sunday dinners frequently turned into an exercise in who could come closest to guessing the number of people who would arrive for the meal. Self-invitees were never excluded, welcomed by a big smile and a sincere hug.

Marjorie loved her household pets, along with the stray cats and a variety of other wildlife that populated her Summer Street neighborhood. Once adopted and brought under her daily care, her animals were assured of a loving environment and the prospect of an extended life.
Marjorie was dedicated to her family. She was a kind and generous person who had lots of spunk. She could flash a smile that would warm your heart. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Upon her request, services for Marjorie were private. Expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to Cranberry Hospice and Palliative Care, 36 Cordage Park Circle, suite 326, Plymouth, MA 02360.
Margie’s family sincerely thanks her doctors, nurses, caregivers, friends, and Cranberry Hospice for their loving care.
