NEEDHAM: Mary L. (Carr) King, age 80, a former longtime resident of Natick, died peacefully early Thursday morning May 16, 2013, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – Needham. She had been the loving wife of the late Thomas F. King for 41 years.
Born in Waltham, and raised in Brighton and South Natick, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary J. (Giggi) Carr. Within a couple years of graduating from Natick High School, Mary and Tom had married and had their first child. The Kings settled in East Natick where together they raised their family. Mary was employed in various capacities with the Weston Public Schools from 1969 until her retirement from the business office in 1991.
Devoted to her faith, Mary had joined various groups and committees at Saint Patrick’s Parish, the most meaningful being her time as a Eucharistic Minister. She enjoyed many cross-country trips to visit her son and his family on the west coast. Mary had also toured much of Europe with family and her friend, Kay, but still appreciated day trips and vacations on the coast of Maine. She was an avid reader, worked crossword puzzles and loved lunching with special family members dubbed “The Wednesday Group”.
Mary was predeceased by Tom in 1994; their daughter, Patricia M. Donovan in 2008; and a grandson, Sean Anderson in 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Carol R. Anderson of Millis; two sons, Stephen T. King and his wife Karen of Beaverton, OR, and Paul F. King and his wife Sharon of Norton; five grandchildren, Derek Donovan, Lisa Fatherree, and Christine, Lauren, and Evan King; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Caroline, and Cooper Donovan; a brother, William Carr and his wife Edna of Framingham, and sister, Barbara Morgan and her husband George of Marstons Mills. She was also the sister of the late Thomas and George Carr.
Her funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Monday, May 20th at 9:00a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday, 2 – 5p.m. Donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Catholic Charities of Boston, 51 Sleeper Street, Boston, MA 02210.
