Obituary

Edward R. Williams, Sr. 81 of Bridgewater passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on May 14, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Son of the late Lila and Ralph Williams, he was born and raised in Brockton where he lived until 2003 when he moved to Bridgewater to a retirement community which he loved.
Growing up on the west side of the city, he was an avid basketball player. Most notably he played for Wetzell’s Jets gaining him the nickname “Zel”. A 1951 Graduate of Brockton High School, he was employed for forty years at the Brockton VA Hospital. After retiring, he spent more time with family and friends, traveling and many other activities. He was fortunate to have enjoyed retirement for close to two decades giving him time to spend as Papa with his grandchildren Lila and Emma Williams of East Bridgewater. Ed was well known for baking his delicious chocolate cakes and making homemade pickles.
He was the beloved husband of Carol M. (Skillings) Williams for over 53 years. He is survived by a son and daughter in law, Edward Jr. (BFD) and Priscilla of East Bridgewater and a daughter Ann Marie of Braintree and also many close caring friends who supported him through his most difficult time.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Sunday 3-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 8 am for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
