Obituary


Edward D. Withers, 89, died May 11, 2013 at his residence at the Taylor Community in Laconia. Born June 8, 1923, Mr. Withers was raised in Dallastown, PA, attended Lebanon Valley College, served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and received a Master’s degree in chemistry from the University of Cincinnati. He had a long career in chemical engineering, research and development. He moved to New Hampshire in 2006 after living in Philadelphia, PA, Morristown, NJ and Miami Lakes, Fl.

An avid reader, he also enjoyed hiking, tennis, gardening, world travels, and most importantly, time with his family.

Predeceased in death in 2005 by his wife, Nancy, he is survived by two sons, David Withers and his wife Susan of Bow, NH and Marshall Withers and his wife Sherry of Savannah, GA; three grandchildren, Sara Withers and her husband Jason, Keeler, of Pembroke, NH, Scott Withers and his wife Amy of Urbandale, IA, and Nicole Withers of Savannah, GA; and four great grandsons, Ben Withers and Caleb Withers of Urbandale, IA, and Grant Keeler and Travis Keeler of Pembroke, N.H. He is survived by a brother, Lowell Withers and his wife Irmgard of Gettysburg, PA and a sister Ruth Cooper and her husband Harry of Elkton, MD. He is predeceased by a sister, Irene Blair of Raleigh, NC.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to the Appalachian Mountain Club (www.outdoors.org).
