Obituary

Mr. Joseph R. Farrell, age 83, a resident of Woburn for over sixty years passed away peacefully at the Winchester Hospital on Sunday, May 12th. He was the beloved husband of the late Beverly J. (Sakowich) and together they shared 64 years of marriage prior to her passing in October of 2012. Born in Winchester he was one of ten children of the late James E. and Angelina (Drapeau) Farrell.

Mr. Farrell was a retired heavy machine operator and worked for many years in the construction industry with several different companies prior to his retirement. As a young man he enjoyed playing softball and for many years he was a member of the Woburn Moose Lodge and the Irish American Club. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following all of the Boston teams. Mr. Farrell was a true handyman and in his leisure time he enjoyed fixing and repairing things around his home and for his family and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife, Mr. Farrell is predeceased by his sister, Mary Wells, and brothers, Edward, William, Robert, Francis, Clarence, Richard, John and Louis Farrell.

He is survived by his children, Carol Vance and her husband Frank of Saco, ME, Joseph C. Farrell and his wife Lauren of Cresskill, NJ, Deborah J. Brogan and her husband Chip of North Andover, Michael R. Farrell and his wife Carolyne of Newburyport. He was the loving grandfather of Todd and Tammy Vance, Kerry, Brett and Keely Farrell, Stephen and Sean Martin. He was the loving great grandfather of Cameron, Neely, Brady and Connor.

A funeral service will be conducted in the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Thursday, May 16th, at 11 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours at the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday from 4 thru 7 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Joseph's memory to Hospice of The North Shore & Greater Boston, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
