Obituary

LONGMEADOW – Clifford L. “Cliff” Lagassie, 80, a resident of Longmeadow since 1967, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, May 11, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life from his home with the assistance of his caregivers from Spectrum Hospice while surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Keegan, Maine on November 7, 1932, a beloved son of the late George and Anna (Knightingale) Lagassie. He was raised in Stockholm, Maine and later moved to West Springfield around 1964. Cliff was employed as a CDL Truck Driver and had last drove tractor trailers for the Carolina Freight Carriers in Windsor Locks, CT. He previously drove a tractor trailer for McCullough Sea-Land in Enfield, CT. Cliff was a member of the Teamsters Local 671 in East Hartford, CT. During his leisure time, Cliff enjoyed meeting with his friends and playing keno at the ‘Springfield Ballet’ on Dwight Street in Springfield. He was a communicant of Saint Mary Church in Longmeadow. He leaves the love of his life, his wife, Wunita M. (Tanner) Lagassie. Cliff and Wunita met while he was playing bingo at Riverside Park in Agawam where she worked and it was ‘love at first sight’. They were married on December 30, 1965 in Newport, NY and were blessed with over 47 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving daughters, Melody L. O’Neill of East Longmeadow and Gregorio Malonte of Springfield, Michelle A. Lagassie of Clermont, FL, and Renae M. Dallas and her husband, Rowan “Roland”, of Springfield; his seven cherished grandchildren, Marcus O’Neill, Justin and Tyler Lagassie and Damion, Kimberly, Alexandria and Tayana Dallas; his dear sister, Joanna Anderson formerly of Van Buren, ME; and his many dear nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear sisters, Mary Jane Plourde, Elsie Fassett, Noella Ouellette, Lillian Dubay, Martina Hooey and Jacqueline Noble. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, May 20, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107 (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Mary Church, 519 Longmeadow Street (Route 5), Longmeadow, MA 01106. His burial will be private at the convenience of his family. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, May 19, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. For those who prefer, his family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospital for Children, (Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104.
