NEW BEDFORD -- William Harris Rapp, 86, died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was surrounded by those he loved. His spirit lives on through his beloved wife, Alice, his children, Bill, Andy and Beth, and most especially his grandchildren, Katie, Meaghan, Erin, Nicole, Lee, Barrett and Leah.
He was the son of the late John B. and Louise (Harris) Rapp.
He filled his 86 years with a love of gardening, bad jokes, contentious political and social discourse and the written and spoken word.
He loved jazz, opera and classical music. He suffered with the Red Sox and rejoiced with the Patriots. He loved to take photographs, eat good food and drink good wine.
He grew up in Brockton, lived in Fairhaven, and loved the ocean and West Island.
He was a romantic who loved poetry and a former Marine with an affection for order.
He had the gift of making everyone feel at ease.
He was the father-in-law of the late Adrienne.
His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2004, in Grace Episcopal Church, County and School streets, New Bedford. Burial is private.
It is suggested remembrances be made in his name to the Scholarship Fund of Grace Church, 133 School St. NB 02740 or the American Cancer Society 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
