Obituary

SPRINGFIELD - John Kabb, 93, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Monday, May 6, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at his daughter and son-in-law, Tina and William's home in Lexington Park, Maryland surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Springfield on April 25, 1920, a beloved son of the late Paul and Helen (Herschuck) Kabokawich and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and attained the rank of Gunner's Mate Second Class. He received the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with One Star, the Amphibious Force Insignia, the American Theatre Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. Following his military service, he was employed for 55 years as a printer at the Diamond International Corporation. While working there, he also worked for 45 years as a mail handler at the United States Bulk Mail Center on Tapley Street in Springfield. He was a longtime member of the Boys Club, played basketball for the Russian American Club, played football for the Chicopee Club, and was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the sport both in the summer and winter months. Active in his faith, he was a lifelong communicant of Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church in Springfield. John was a quiet man who loved his family and showered them with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves the love of his life, his wife, Mary (Radewick) Kabb. They were married on June 17, 1950 in Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church in Springfield and were blessed with nearly 63 years of happiness together. He also leaves his loving daughter and son-in-law, Tina M. Diaduk and her husband, William, of Lexington Park, MD; his cherished grandson, Nick Diaduk of California, MD and his fiancée, Laura Miller, of Abbottstown, PA, his dear brother, Paul Kabb and his wife, Nellie, of Springfield; his dear sister-in-law, Helen Radewick of Springfield; his dear nephews, Michael Kabb of Springfield and Paul Kabb and his wife, Cheryl, of Rochester, NY; and his dear niece, Barbara Cuiffo and her husband, Frank, of Bronxville, NY. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear sisters, Alice Streeter and Anna Butman; and his dear nephew, William Rodd. His funeral will be held on Thursday morning, May 16, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.) followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. in Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church, 118 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104. His burial with Military Honors will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery, 426 Bay Street, Springfield, MA 01109. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Panikhida Service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
