Tillman Woods, 75, of Irwin County, Georgia, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 5 PM, Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Ocilla Baptist Church in Ocilla with the Rev. Rob Dowdle officiating. His grandchildren will also speak. Interment will follow in the Brushy Creek Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Woods was born December 20, 1937, in Ocilla to the late Jesse and Lodie Tucker Woods. He was a 1957 graduate of Ocilla High School and received his Associates degree in accounting and business from Georgia Business School in Valdosta. A former resident of Thomasville, Georgia, he had lived in the Irwin County community for the past nine years. He was a former member of Newark Baptist Church in Thomasville where he was an active RA leader and an usher. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was an employee of the CSX Railroad for 38 years. Being an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Ocilla Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Lynda W. Woods of Irwin County; two daughters: Shana Woods (Stephen W.) Cook of Valdosta and Sherri Tilda Woods (Larry D., Jr.) Justice of Dallas, Georgia; four granddaughters: Meshea Elyse-Cerise Cook, Kamil Elizabeth Cook, Emma-Lee Skie Justice, and Ana-Lee Autumn Justice; three sisters: Ruby W. (Charles) Lodge of Pelham, Myrtle (Joe) Portier and Martha W. Alford, all of Irwin County; one brother: Woodrow “Woody” (Peggy) Woods of Irwin County; as well as several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
