Virginia Leonard, a longtime resident of Taunton passed away on the morning of May 5th surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Leonard was 91 years old. She was the beloved mother of Mary Lou Houle of South Attleboro and the mother-in-law of the late Ernest Joseph Houle, Jr. Virginia was a proud grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Leonard is survived by her sister-in-law Phoebe Robinson of Taunton and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband the late Alvedo Joseph “Dick” Leonard, brother the late George Robinson, sister the late Laura Robinson and her grandson the late Stephen Houle.
Virginia was born in Boston of March 18, 1922, daughter of the late Fred and Louise Robinson. She was a devote Catholic and attended Sunday Mass at St. Mary’s in Taunton faithfully. Mrs. Leonard was employed by the Swank’s Company in Attleboro for many years as a Foot Press Operator. After retiring Virginia became very active as an officer in many social clubs and senior citizen’s groups. She enjoyed traveling and loved to spend time with her family. Virginia was very involved and interested in local politics and participated in campaigning for her causes. Mrs. Leonard will be forever respected and loved by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday May 9th from 9-10:30am at the Taunton Funeral Home 8 Crapo St. Taunton, MA 02780. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated following the visitation at 11am at St. Mary’s Church in Taunton. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton.
