New Bedford - Devoted mother, loving grandmother, and dear friend Edna May (Nickerson) Foss passed away on May 4, 2013 at St. Luke’s Hospital with her daughters by her side.
Born in Huntington Park, CA on April 9, 1930, to the late Charles and Ethel (Robenolt) Nickerson, she and her mother traveled cross-country by train to New Bedford in the early 1940s. Edna married George A. Foss in 1950, and together they created a wonderful life with their two daughters. When George died in 1984, Edna honored his memory by bringing love and joy to their grandchildren.
A graduate of New Bedford High School, Edna’s first job was in the office of J. I. Paulding, a position she would return to almost 30 years later. Her most recent employment was with Travelers Insurance in Middleboro, from which she retired in 2007. Throughout her life Edna was known as a hard worker and a kind and caring person.
Edna is survived by her daughters Donna Foss Singer of Herndon, VA and husband Skip; Deborah Foss of Williamstown, MA; grandchildren Lauren Foss Goodman and Yuchao Wu, Daniel Foss Goodman, Allison Foss Singer, Jessica Foss Singer, and Ben Hess; and her dear friend Vi Richard.
Often described as “fun to be around,” Edna was devoted to her family and friends and while they will miss her physical presence, her spirit lives on through the human connections she made throughout her life.

Visiting hours on Monday, May 6, 2013, 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the funeral home.
Interment in Oak Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
