Florence Koniares (Cagno), 87, of Arlington, (formerly of Medford), passed away peacefully on May 1, 2013 after a brief illness. Florence was born on March 6, 1926 in Medford, MA. Nick-named “Cag” in her youth, she graduated from Medford High School and Catherine Gibbs Business/Secretarial School. She lived for many years in Arlington overlooking the natural beauty of her beloved Spy Pond. Early in her career, she worked for a Greater Boston radio station. For a time, she worked at Lincoln Labs in Lexington, MA. She later joined the United States Government, first for NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and later the U.S. Dept. of Transportation. She spent the majority of her career at the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in Cambridge, MA in various positions starting as a senior secretary, then moving into their training department and retiring in 1988 as Training Officer.
She leaves two sisters, Joan Patricia (Pat) Pineau of Wilmington, MA (formerly of Medford) and Elizabeth (Betsy) DiMeo of Beverly, MA (formerly of Stoneham). In addition, she is survived by four nephews, Anthony Pineau of Wilmington, Mark Pineau and his partner Charles Roche of Springfield, VA, Christopher DiMeo and his husband Robert Saoud of Malden, MA and Stephen DiMeo of Wakefield, MA, a niece, Gina Harrison and her husband Larry of Beverly, MA and two Great Nephews, Benjamin Harrison and Nickolas Saoud-DiMeo. She will also be sadly missed by many treasured friends including Sr. Eustace Caggiano, CSJ.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday morning, May 7 from 10:00 until 11:30 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford with a funeral service conducted in the funeral home at 11:30. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
