Obituary

Albert Leon “Bob” Lafleur, age 87, died on May 1, 2013. He suffered for many years with heart and renal disease but it was the recent death of his loving son Kenneth that broke his heart. He was born in Chicopee, (Willimansett) MA on April 26, 1926 to Leon and Alphonsine Lafleur. He graduated from St Jerome’s High School in 1943, joined the United States Navy in 1944 and was stationed in the Pacific aboard the USS Apollo. He served as a Yeoman Second Class and also as an entertainer for his shipmates using his gift of dance. Although his dream was to be a professional dancer, he graduated from Holyoke Junior College in 1948 with a degree in Business Administration. He worked for AG Spalding Co in Chicopee, MA and it was there at a company Christmas party where he met the love of his life, Phyllis Stokowski, to whom he was married for 57 wonderful years. They lived in Chicopee until 1967 when they moved to Point O Woods Beach in South Lyme, CT and then to Berlin, CT in 1986. While he lived in CT, he worked for Hendels Inc., New Penn Trucking, Capitol Region Educational Council and eventually retired from the Hartford Insurance Company in 1991. After retirement he and Phyllis spent time between their residence in Venice, FL and Berlin, CT. Albert was a very loving family man who was also very artistic and creative. He loved dancing, scrap booking and decorating for Christmas but his favorite thing of all was to be surrounded by his family. Besides his wife Phyllis, left to mourn his loss are his son Bruce Lafleur and his wife Patty of Glendale, AZ; daughter Deborah Tencza and her husband Chuck of Berlin, CT; his grandchildren, Kevin Lafleur and his wife Alicia, Matthew Lafleur and his wife Kelly, Brian Lafleur and his companion Melanie Reese, Ryan Lafleur and Fiancé Liz House, Sarah Lafleur, Jason Lafleur and his girlfriend Paige Shelto and Catherine Tencza; his precious great grandchildren, Kaleb, Colby, Avery, Mattilyn Reese and many special nieces and nephews. His youngest son Kenneth predeceased him on April 8, 2013. Albert is survived by one brother, Leon Lafleur and his wife Constance of Chicopee, MA. He is predeceased by his loving sisters, Sister Leona Lafleur of the Presentation of Mary, Juliet Gingras, Helen Perron, Gertrude Chatel and his brothers, Bernard, Marcel, Raymond, William, Gilbert, Vincent and Rev. Father Gerard Lafleur. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday May 7, 2013 at 10 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Assumption Church (104 Springfield St) at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
