Obituary

GORDON T. HERSEY of Hingham, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 1st, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 85. He was born in Hingham and was a lifelong resident of the town. Gordon served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and for almost a decade was the well known proprietor of "The Scoop", a popular ice cream shop in Hingham. He also was a member of the Weymouth United Methodist Church and the John Wesley Society.

He was the husband of the late Shirley J. (Strohl) Hersey and father of Laura Hersey Bustamante, Lucille J. Hersey and her husband Karl Julian and Lynne Hersey all of Hingham. Brother of Stanley L. Hersey of Hingham. He also leaves his brother-in-law and good friend Kenneth Martin of Hingham. Grandfather of Juliet Fulgoni and her husband Stephen of Hingham, James Bustamante of Randolph and Shawn Klippel, Vanessa Klippel and Stephen Klippel all of Reading, PA. Great grandfather of Shawn Klippel, Jr. and Dean Fulgoni. Gordon was predeceased by his siblings; Roger Hersey, Viola Hayden, R. Woodrow Hersey, John R. Hersey and Polly Martin. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be conducted on Monday, May 6th at 10 AM at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham. Friends may visit at the Downing Chapel on Sunday from 1-4 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory would be appreciated to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472. Interment in Fort Hill Cemetery, Hingham.
