NATICK: Joseph John Livoti, age 85, a longtime Natick resident, died on Tuesday morning, April 30, 2013, at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. He was the devoted husband of Lorraine E. (Sheldon) Livoti for 60 years.
Born, raised, and educated in Arlington, he was a son of the late John and Ann (Malfa) Livoti. Joe left high school early to serve with the US Coast Guard in the South Pacific during World War II. He returned home, graduated from Arlington High School in 1949, and shortly thereafter rejoined to Coast Guard.
Joe and Lorraine wed in 1953 and made their home in Woburn prior to settling in Natick in 1959. Joe enjoyed his work with the Coast Guard, working aboard Cutters for weeks at a time and then joining the crews of icebreakers such as the Eastwind for winter duties in the Atlantic. He retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 1968. Joe then spent the next 20 years with the Dover Sherborn Schools operating heating systems, primarily at the Pine Hill School. A man who enjoyed repairing and improving things around the house, he and Lorraine enjoyed their home and yard, and sharing time with their children, grandchildren, and the family dogs.
He is survived by Lorraine; a son, Stephen J. Livoti and his wife Edith of PA; two daughters, Diane J. McDonald of NH, and Patricia J. Tauer and her husband Gregory of Natick; six grandchildren, Joseph, Stephanie, Jason, Kristen, Kelly, and Erika; two great-grandchildren, Crysania and Cameron; and a sister, Antoinette DiModica of Bourne.
His funeral will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, Natick, on Saturday, May 4th at 10:00a.m. Burial will follow at Saint Patrick Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, 5-7p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Joseph’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
