Obituary

Joseph Fonseca, 66, of Swansea, passed away April 30, 2013 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Noreen (DaCosta) Fonseca and son of Salome Fonseca and the late Jesse Fonseca.
Born in São Miguel, Açores. He has resided in Swansea for the past 36 years. Mr. Fonseca emigrated from Portugal with his family in 1958.
A former math schoolteacher, Mr. Fonseca was employed by the Fall River School System for over 25 years. He was an avid reader and soccer fan.
Mr. Fonseca was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a platoon sergeant in the US Marine Corps with Hotel Company, 2nd Battalion, where he received the honor of The Purple Heart.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Scott Fonseca (wife Lindsey) of Bedford, MA, and Brian Fonseca (wife Melissa) of Dedham, MA, Grandchildren, Lily, Alison and Tyler Fonseca; Sisters, Adriana Medeiros of Somerset, MA, Ana Fonseca of Lexington, MA, and Manuela Fonseca of Norwich, VT; as well as three nephews and six nieces.
His funeral services will take place at MANUEL ROGERS AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 North Main Street, Fall River, SATURDAY at 7 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Michael Church at 8 A.M. Interment at Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours FRIDAY 5-9 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.
