Obituary

GLOUCESTER – Florence May Lane, 91, died Monday, April 29, 2013 in the Golden Living Center, Gloucester.
Born in Gloucester on January 19, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Alwyn L. and Julia (Wheeler) Lane. She attended Gloucester public schools and graduated from Mass State College in Amherst in 1943.
A U.S. Army veteran of WWII, Florence was a physical therapist, working and studying in several Army hospitals around the United States, New Zealand and Australia. She was honorably discharged in February of 1946.
Florence worked at the Children’s Hospital in Boston, helping children with Cerebral Palsy. She then went on to work with wounded war veterans.
She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Glee Club in both high school and college and also participated in her church choir.
She is survived by her sister, A. Leslie Harris; nephew, Gary Lewis; nieces, Margaret (Lewis) Johnson and Linda (Harris) Thompson and many grandnieces and grandnephews.
Her services will be held on Friday in the Trinity Congregational Church 70 Middle St., Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Trinity Congregational Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
