Joyce A. Haggerty, 78, a lifetime resident of Winchester, passed away April 27, 2013. Born in Woburn, Joyce was the beloved daughter and only child of the late Joseph P. and Margaret (Joyce) Haggerty.
Ms. Haggerty was a 1952 graduate of Winchester High School, and went on to Regis College, from where she graduated in 1956. She then received here Masters Degree from Middlebury College in VT and her Phd in Philosophy from UMass Amherst.
Joyce loved being a Spanish professor at Regis College and later at Framingham State College for 29 years. She was a former president of the American Association of Teachers for Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) and a member of the Massachusetts Foreign Language Association. In her spare time, Ms. Haggerty was actively involved in St. Mary’s Parish, where she also served as a lector at the 9AM Mass. She was a loyal financial benefactor of the Medical Missions of Mary.
Joyce will be remembered by many loving cousins from the Haggerty, Joyce, McInerny, Porter, Malloy, Riley and Petrucci families, as well as her many dear friends, especially Francesa Piana and Catherine Murray, and her former students.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thurs., May 2 at 10AM in St. Mary’s Church 155 Washington St., Winchester. Relatives and friends are kindly invited and asked to meet directly at the church. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Medical Missions of Mary 179 Highland Ave. Somerville, MA 02143.
