Geraldine E. “Gerry” (Loveday) Owen, 85 years old of Brockton, died Saturday April 27, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late John D. Owen, Jr. Gerry was born in Brockton a daughter of the late Gerard and Hazel (Carlson) Loveday and remained a lifelong resident of the city.
A 1946 graduate of Brockton High School, Gerry returned to school when her children were older. In 1974 she graduated from the LPN program at Southeastern Regional Vocational School and began a 22 year career as a pediatric nurse at the Cardinal Cushing Hospital.
In her free time, Gerry enjoyed gardening, cooking, travel, camping and handcrafts especially knitting, crocheting and quilting. She had also been a member of the Red Hat Society at the Brockton and Whitman-Hanson chapters. Most importantly, Gerry loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Gerry was the devoted mother of John G. Owen and his wife Jeanne of Carver, Robert D. Owen and his wife Bonnie of Bridgewater, Paul M. Owen and his wife Susan of Carver, Gary F. Owen and his wife Brenda and Chris M. Owen and his wife Helene all of Wareham. She leaves 13 cherished grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and was the sister of Walter Loveday of Middleboro, Alan Loveday of Brockton, Carol Maynard of Boston , James Loveday of Lexington and the late Joan Mills and Gerard and Janice Loveday. She also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Wednesday 4-8 pm. The procession will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 am followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery.
