Obituary

Philip X. Carr, a "True Townie", born on December 9, 1935 at home in Charlestown and entered into eternal life suddenly on April 26, 2013 at his home in Charlestown. He was 77 years old.

Phil has been a licensed funeral director serving the people of Charlestown for over 55 years. He grew up in Charlestown where he attended St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1953. He attended St. Michael's College in Vermont and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business in 1957. He graduated from New England Institute of Anatomy & Science in 1958 and was sworn in as a licensed funeral director in 1958. Phil worked alongside his late father Frank H. Carr who began the business in 1927 until Frank retired in the 1970's. Phil purchased the Carr Funeral Home in Melrose in 1983. Phil was dedicated and compassionate to his profession up until his untimely death. He was very active in the Milt Schmitt hockey program in Charlestown when it began many years ago. He was a former board member at The Charlestown Boys & Girls Club. He was a member of the Old Charlestown Schoolboys Association, The Bunker Hill Associates, Bunker Hill Council # 62, Knights of Columbus and The Charlestown Lions Club. Phil enjoyed marching in the Naples, Florida parade each year during St. Patrick's Day festivities with the St. Michael's College Alumni Association.

Phil is the adored and loving husband of 54 years to Mary M. (Kavanagh) Carr. He is the devoted father of Philip X. Carr Jr. and his wife Susan of Melrose, Eileen Hegarty and her husband Danny of Marco Island, Florida, Kathleen Sheridan and her husband Jimmy of Burlington, and Christopher M. Carr of Swampscott. He is the proud and loving Papa of Farren, Daniel, Philip III, Connor, Molly, Greg, Kristine, Elizabeth, Alison, Emily, Hannah and Callan. He is the beloved son of the late Frank H. Carr and Ann (Collins) Carr. He is the beloved brother of the late Mary Simeone, Anne Donahue, William, Frank Jr., John, Joseph, Thomas and Robert Carr. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Phil's Funeral on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 8:30 A.M. from the Frank H. Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. Interment at Winthrop Cemetery in Winthrop. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 2 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
