– Normand L. Lapierre, 91, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday evening at The Friendly Home. He was the husband of the late Marthe L. (Vigeant) Lapierre.
Born in Woonsocket he was a son of the late Alexandre and Georgina (Dupre) Lapierre. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Lapierre served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII as a member of the 46th Bomb Fighter Squadron. He received the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and was discharged with the rank of Corporal.
Mr. Lapierre was employed at Slater Dye, Argonne Worsted, Pratt-Whitney Corp. for many years and also worked at Tupperware before retiring in 1984.
A longtime parishioner of St. Agatha’s, Normand served as the parish sexton and was a member of the St. Agatha senior citizens.
Normand was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed traveling with his wife. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, caring and compassionate manner and his devotion to his beloved family.
Normand loved spending time with his family and occasionally participating in activities at the Friendly Home where he was resided for the past 13 years.
He is survived by five sons Bernard and Robert Lapierre both of Lincoln, Normand Lapierre of Cumberland, Ronald Lapierre of Woonsocket, Michael Lapierre (Kim) of North Smithfield, six daughters Diane Lanoie (Paul) of FL., Janet Yozura (Alan) of Franklin, MA., Rachael Hickory (Michael) of Barre VT., Denise Wolfson of Watertown, MA., Celine Jolin (Steve) of Woonsocket and Christine Rockwell (John) of Cranston. He was the brother of the late Albert G. Lapierre, Blanche Lachapelle, Simone Berube and Germaine Sevigny. He is also survived 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Monday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Agatha’s Church, Joffre Ave. Woonsocket. Burial with military honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4-7 pm.
