Obituary

SALEM- V. Faith (Schaffrath) Moore, 62, of Salem, died Thursday, July 22, 2004, in Salem Hospital following a long illness.

Born in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Veronica (Simmons) Schaffrath. She graduated from Stearns High School in Millinocket, Maine, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in anthropology from Pembroke College, now Brown University. She also attended Andover Newton Theological School.

Faith was last employed by the City of Salem in the children's room of the Salem Public Library. She also worked in library technical services at Salem State College. Previously, she was employed as Director of Religious Education at the First Parish Church Unitarian Universalist in Waltham. Before moving to Waltham, she held the same position at the First Parish Society, Portland, Maine, and the Unitarian Universalist Church, Brunswick, Maine.

Faith was a member of the First Universalist Society, Salem, and was a resident of Salem since 1995. She had previously resided in Newton; Waltham; and Portland and Woolwich, Maine.She was active in many community endeavors, including the Conservation Committee in Woolwich, Maine (of which she was chairperson); the Audubon Society in Wisconsin, Maine, and Massachusetts; Literacy Volunteers; and the American Association of University Women. Faith was an avid reader and had a keen interest in nature, especially bird watching and shell collecting, Native American folklore/artifacts, and seafaring folk music.

Faith is survived by her partner, Helen Jacoby of Salem; two sons, Albert A. of Boston and Daniel D. of Watertown ; their father, Albert B. Moore of Memphis and Woolwich; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul M. Schaffrath and his wife, Susan Kron, of Boston, and William F. and Diane Schaffrath of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2004, at 3 p.m. at the First Universalist Church, 211 Bridge St., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the First Universalist Society–Salem, Attn: Faith Moore Memorial Fund, 211 Bridge St., Salem, MA 01970, or to the Mass. Directions to Church from Route 128: From Route. 128 NORTH, take Exit 25A (RT.114 EAST). Follow RT. 114 through Peabody into Salem. From the Salem Line, continue on RT. 114(North Street) for 3/4 to 1 mile until you go up on a bridge or overpass. Stay in right lane and take the off ramp on right marked RT. 107 NORTH. At STOP sign Go RIGHT onto RT. 107 NORTH (Bridge Street). Go under bridge. Continue Straight through a pedestrian crossing (with overhead blinking yellow lights) and a small rotary on RT. 107 NORTH, right after the rotary, on Route 107, Bridge Street, you will see a large brick church on your right. #211 Bridge Street. This is the back of the church. To find public parking, continue on Bridge Street to the next right, St. Peter Street. Take the right and the first right onto Federal Street and enter the parking area on your left. Across the street from the lot entrance, is a small walkway that leads to the front of the church.
