Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Jerome J. Turcotte, 98, of the Hungry Hill section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Monday, April 22, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Windham, Connecticut on August 14, 1914, a son of the late Francois X. and Helene G. (Berger) Turcotte and moved to Springfield in 1926. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and attained the rank of Private. He was last employed as a sheet metal worker at Peter Ouimette Sheet Metal Contractors and retired in 1974. He was a member of the Brightwood Golden Age Club and a member of the International Brotherhood of Sheet Metal Workers, Local 63 in Springfield. He was a longtime communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Lucille A. (Ouimette) Turcotte who was Called Home on August 12, 2003. He leaves his daughters, Sister Denise M. Turcotte of the Sisters of Holy Cross in Pittsfield, NH and Helene L. Kagan and her husband, Richard, of Springfield; his four grandsons, Richard Kagan, Jr. and his wife, Carrie, Andrew Halley, Brendan Halley and his wife, Michelle, and Joseph Jerome “J.J.” Kagan and his wife, Liz; his seven great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nicole and Leah, Samuel and Benjamin, and Brenna and Jackson; his two brothers, Andre “Andy” Turcotte and his wife, Beatrice, of Springfield and Raymond Turcotte of Huntington; and his many nephews and nieces. Besides his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by two brothers, Normand and Larry Turcotte. His funeral will be held on Friday morning, April 26, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. His burial will follow the Mass at Saint Patrick Cemetery, Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Sisters of Holy Cross Development Office, 377 Island Pond Road, Manchester, NH 03109-4811.
