Obituary

Bradford Cady Leyland age 90 of Duxbury, MA and Palm Beach Shores, FL died peacefully at Newfield House in Plymouth, MA on April 22, 2013. He was born in Boston, MA the son of Frederick M. and Bertha (Cady) Leyland. He is survived by his wife Constance C. Leyland to whom he was married for 65 years and by his three daughters Sally Barlow and her husband Stephen of Providence, RI, Lucy Leyland and her husband Matthew Lieber of Weston, MA, and Lisa Leiden and her husband Jeffrey of Boston/Glencoe, IL. Brad was predeceased by his son Bradford C. Leyland, Jr. He also leaves seven grandchildren Lydia, Perry, Noel, Stewart, Henry, Ben, Alex, one great granddaughter Olivia and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Howard S. Leyland of Sarasota, Fl.
Brad graduated from Newton High School in 1940 and Bryant & Stratton Business School in 1942. While attending business school he also worked on classified testing at MIT for which he received a commendation for his contribution to the Manhattan Project. He served in the US Army for over three years. He participated in the invasion of Normandy on D-Day and was part of several other European campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge. After discharge from the Army in 1945 he attended Boston University and then joined the family firm, FM Leyland & Company, a wool importing business based in Boston. He later became a manufacturers' representative in New York City for many years. In 1969 the family moved to Duxbury and Brad joined the New England division of Stewart Alemite Sales of Chicago, IL.
He was an avid sportsman and particularly enjoyed tennis, paddle tennis, boating, sailing, skiing, and fishing. He was a longtime member of the Duxbury Yacht Club. Brad will be remembered for his keen wit, ready sense of humor, his excellent sportsmanship, and his unfailing kindness to family and friends. A private family service will be held.
