Obituary

Louis J. Robicheau, 87 of Peabody and formerly of Salem, died Monday April 15, 2013 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. He was the husband of the late Anita I. (Richard) Robicheau.

Born in Lynn he was the son of the late Joseph H. and Lorette (Comeau) Robicheau. A veteran of World War II, he served as a gunner’s mate in the Navy in Europe and in the Pacific. Following the war he returned to the Northshore and worked for several varied manufacturing companies in the greater Salem area.

Louis's great avocation was to advocate for disabled veterans and their families throughout the area. He was a an active member of several veteran’s organizations and was past State and National Commander in Chief of the Franco-American War Veterans and Past Commander of the VFW Witch City Post 1524. Louis was a long time member of the Franco-American War Veterans Lynn Post 10 and the DAV Chapter 84.

Perhaps his most rewarding position was as the VFW’s Head Representative for Recreational Activities at the Chelsea Soldier’s Home where he was also the VFW’s Hospital Chairman. It was in these positions that he was most influential in helping the thousands of veterans and their families over the years.

He is survived by 3 brothers, Joseph A. Robicheau and his wife Gloria, Gerald Robicheau, Alphie Robicheau and his wife Marjorie and a sister-in-law, Cecile Robicheau. He also leaves his devoted friend and companion Maria Moisan and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Laurence, Paul & Daley Robicheau and Emily Lefebvre.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, April 26, 2013 at 8:30 A.M. to be followed by his funeral mass in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem at 9:30 A.M. Visiting hours, in the funeral home, on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea Soldier’s Home Recreational Fund, Attn: John Davis, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.
