ROCKPORT: Doris M. Hurd, 84, formerly of Sheedy Park, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, in the Den-Mar Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Rockport following a brief illness.
Born in Gloucester on February 1, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Beatrice (Brown) Hurd. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and a graduate of Gloucester High School class of 1947.
Doris was employed as a sales clerk on the cosmetic counter at the former Sterling Drug Store on Main Street for thirty-five years. She had also worked for Flex Key Company in Gloucester for ten years before retiring in 1991.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David B. and Kathleen “Kathi” (Milne) Hurd of Gloucester; four grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, Kelly and Kory Hurd all of Gloucester; a cousin, Donna, wife of George Ingersoll and their family, as well as her extended family and friends at Den-Mar.
Her funeral service will be held on Saturday in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle St., Gloucester at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the “Resident Activity Fund” at Den-Mar Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, 44 South St., Rockport, MA 01966. Interment will be held in the Wesleyan Cemetery, Gloucester.
