Obituary

George L. Nolan, 94, of Warwick, RI formerly of New Bedford, died April 19, 2013 peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Rita J. (Fleury) Nolan, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.

Born in New Bedford on February 22, 1919, the son of the late Pierre and Laura (Turgeon) Nolan, he lived in New Bedford and Florida before moving to Warwick, RI in 2008.

Mr. Nolan was formerly employed as a professional photographer and was the proprietor of Nolan Studios for over 25 years.

He served in the US Army during World War II. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, participating in the Battle of the Rhineland, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon, the Philippine Liberation ribbon with Bronze Service Star, and the World War II Victory medal. Mr. Nolan later served with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, sports cars and most of all spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; his daughter, Jacqueline Nolan-Santos of Holly Springs, NC; two sons, George A. Nolan of Warwick, RI and Donald O. Nolan and his wife Hildy of Fairhaven; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was the grandfather of the late Ryan P. Nolan.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Wednesday, April 24th at 10 AM. Funeral Mass in St. Anthony's Church, New Bedford at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday, April 23rd 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Ryan P.
