Obituary

CHICOPEE – Ronald A. Lavoie, 66, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Home on Tuesday, April 16, 2013. He was born in Holyoke on August 25, 1946, a beloved son of the late George and Florence (Leclair) Lavoie. He was raised in Chicopee, attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School in Holyoke and Chicopee Comprehensive High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, received the National Defense Service Medal, and attained the rank of Corporal. He was employed at the former Sunoco Paper Company and the U.S. Envelope Company, both in Springfield and worked for over 35 years at the Westvaco Company in Enfield, CT, where he retired in 2009. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee. Ronnie leaves his beloved wife, Janet P. (Berthiaume) Lavoie. They were married at the former Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 13 years of happiness together. He also leaves his dear brother, Gerald Lavoie and his wife, Maureen, of South Hadley; his dear sister, Ann Marie Czuchra and her husband, Joseph, of Chicopee; his five loving step children, Sandi Sowa of Ware, Ann Marie Baxter and her husband, George, of Chicopee, Thomas Lamica and his wife, Traci, of Holyoke, Mary Lamica-Garley and her husband, Denny Garley, of Dallas, TX, and Patricia Fontaine and her husband, Steve, of Monson; his dear sisters-in-law, Linda Lavoie of Great Barrington and Marie Hamel of Chicopee; his many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his many dear nephews and nieces. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his dear brother, Roger Lavoie who was Called Home in 1977. His relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 11 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with Military Honors will follow the Mass at the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
