Obituary

MARION — Janice Fisher Russell, age 95 years, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Sippican Long Term Care Facility in Marion, after a period of declining health. She was the widow of the late Clayton B. "Jimmy" Russell.

Born and raised in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Lillian Brightman Fisher and was a graduate of Wheaton College Class of 1939. She then worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance both in Boston and Portland, Maine. In 1942 she married Jimmy while he was serving in the U.S. Air Corp.

Janice was the Assistant Director of Public Relations at St. Luke's Hospital for many years and then became the Director of Public Relations and Volunteer Services for twenty five years. Upon retirement, she and Jim travelled many places, especially enjoying Andros in the Bahamas.

She was a member of the Ladies Branch of the N.B. Port Society, a former walking tour guide in the historic area of the city, and formerly active member of the New Bedford Yacht Club, the Wamsutta Club and the College Club of New Bedford.

She leaves a daughter Judith R. DeMailly and her husband Charles DeMailly Jr. (Buzz); two grandchildren, Charles III and Russell and his companion Natalie Harris; and three great grandchildren, Myranda, James and Emma DeMailly.

According to her wishes, she will be cremated and buried with her husband of 53 years in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River at a private ceremony.

Remembrances may be made in her name to the Scholarship Fund of the Ladies Branch of the N.B. Port Society, c/o Community Foundation, 63 Union St., NB, 02740.
