DUDLEY – John (Jan) Karlowicz, 86, died Monday, April 15, 2013 in the Hospital of Central Connecticut with his family at his side. His wife of 62 years, Irena (Chomicz) Karlowicz, died in 2010.
He leaves 2 sons, Tadeusz Karlowicz of Webster and Jerzy & his wife Maria Karlowicz of Dudley; a daughter, Grace and her husband Miroslaw Futoma of Southington, CT; 2 brothers, Anthony Karlowicz of Dudley and Chester Karlowicz of Worcester; 8 grandchildren, Derek, Marek, Jessica, Anna, Katarzyna, Piotr, Patricia & Michael; 7 great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
He was born on February 12, 1927 in Jegliniec, Poland, a son of Kazimierz and Paulina (Scholastyka) Karlowicz. He moved here in 1976.
He tried his best to care for his wife Irene during her illness. His life was one of hard work; as a teenager he was sent to work in a forced labor camp in Germany. He loved his family and always worried about every one of them. Mr. Karlowicz was a tailor by trade and always noticed fashion trends. Prior to retirement he worked as a wire drawer at Johnson Wire and then at Concord Wire, both in Worcester, for many years.
He was a member of St. Andrew Bobola Church.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved gardening and fishing.
The funeral will be held Friday, April 19, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster, with a Mass at 1:00 PM in St. Andrew Bobola Church, 54 West Main Street. Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. A calling period will be from 11:15 AM to 12:15 PM in the funeral home.
