Seymour Kass passed away peacefully at home Friday April 12. He was a day shy of his 87th birthday.
He was born in the Bronx April 13, 1926 to immigrant parents. His first language was Yiddish for which he retained a lifelong affection. He learned English when he began kindergarten & this began a determined pursuit of education resulting in masters degrees from Stanford & University of Chicago, a PhD from Illinois Institute of Technology, & a career as a math professor at U Mass Boston.
He was a passionate lover of mathematics, language, & travel which began with cross-country hitch hiking. He also ran 31 marathons and occasionally baked strudel.
He is survived by wife Judith Kass, son Daniel Kass, & daughter Lia Kass.
Graveside service will be 1 pm Tuesday, April 16 at Knights of Liberty Cemetery 19 Washington St Woburn, Mass. Shiva will be observed at the Kass home Tuesday-Thursday 7-9 pm.
