Funeral Service in the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton Friday at 11am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery W. Bridgewater. Visiting Hours Thursday 2-4 and 6-8pm. Obituary
Elsie died Monday evening in the Blue Hills Alzheimer’s Care Center in Stoughton after a 3 year battle with Alzheimers. She was born in Stoughton; raised and educated in W. Bridgewater, and the daughter of the late Norman and Emma (Horton) Melendy.
In 1948 she met and married Howard S. Allen and moved for a brief time to E. Bridgewater. Following they relocated to So. Weymouth where all their children were born and then to Brockton 6 years later where she stayed until her illness. Elsie was a secretary at the former Plouffe School of Dance in Brockton for 25 years and was known as Miss Elsie. In her early days she enjoyed horseback riding and climbing trees where she was often found reading. Later in life beside the time spent with her family Elsie enjoyed crocheting. She was the sister of the late William and Clyde Melendy, and grandmother to the late Jason Marble. In addition to the survivors above she also has many nieces and nephews.
