Founder of Trull Brook Golf Course
TEWKSBURY: H. Bailey Trull, Jr., age 80, a longtime Tewksbury resident, passed away at home on Thursday, April 11, 2013, with his family by his side.
He was the devoted husband of Audrey (Bernard) Trull, with whom he celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on December 1, 2012.
Born in Lowell on October 19, 1932, he was the son of the late Henry Bailey Trull, Sr. and the late Laura (Hollingworth) Trull.
Bailey was raised in Lowell, attended Lowell schools and graduated from Essex Agricultural High School.
Following graduation, he attended the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where he received his B.S. Degree.
With his degree in hand, Bailey went to work for Cornell University as the County Agent. From that experience, he formulated his idea for the creation of the Trull Brook Golf Course, which he and his father developed on the grounds of the former Trull Farm.
Bailey was a founding member of the National Golf Course Owners Association. In addition, he was an active participant in many charitable and volunteer organizations including the Lowell Salvation Army, the Lowell Boys Club, the Habitat For Humanity, the Lowell Cemetery, where he served as a member and past-president of its Board of Directors; the Lowell Cooperative Bank, where he served as a member of its Board of Directors; he served two terms as a member of the Tewksbury School Committee during the early 1970's; the Tewksbury Rotary Club, where as president Bailey was instrumental in bringing the late Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops to Lowell in their first of eleven annual concerts to benefit college scholarships in Tewksbury and Lowell. Bailey was also a lifetime member of the First United Baptist Church of Lowell, where he taught Sunday school and served on numerous boards and committees.
In addition to his wife Audrey, Bailey is survived by three sons, David Trull of Groveland, William Trull and his wife Deborah of Lowell, and Roy Trull and his wife Lorraine of Tewksbury; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Allyson, Ashley, Victoria, Alexander, Olivia, Cameron, and Veronica; three sisters, Shirley Hardy and her husband Raymond of Lowell, Elizabeth Berk and her husband Dennis of Concord, and Jane Trull of Arlington; his sister-in-law, Anne Bernard; his brother-in-law, Edward Bernard and his wife Debra and their daughter Lauren; also several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Monday, April 15, from 4-8 p.m., in the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Tuesday, April 16, at 9:30 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by Funeral Services at 10:30 a.m. in the First United Baptist Church, 99 Church St., Lowell. Interment at the Lowell Cemetery. Donations in Bailey's memory may be made to the Lowell Salvation Army, 150 Appleton St., Lowell, MA 01852.
