Whitman – Ann L. (Mahoney) Tonello 82, a longtime resident of Whitman, died Tuesday April 9 after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of 61 years to Vincent J. Tonello.
Born in Franklin she was the youngest daughter of the late J. Joseph and Helen M. (Wall) Mahoney. At the age of thirteen Ann moved to Whitman and was a graduate of Whitman High School, Class of 1948.
Prior to her marriage and family she had been a waitress at the famous Toll House Restaurant of Whitman.
She was an active communicant of the Holy Ghost Church where she served for many years as a Eucharistic Minister as well as co-chairing the CCD program. She had devoted many hours to the Ladies Sodality, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She also was an active member of the Old Colony YMCA for over 40 years.
In addition to her husband Vinny, she is survived by her nine loving children Stephan Tonello and his fiancée Annettia of Florida, Thomas Tonello and his wife Susan of Sandwich, Robert Tonello and his wife Jolene of Whitman, Susan LaPierre of Brockton, Jane Arena and her husband Dennis of Plymouth, Joseph Tonello and his wife Tina of Halifax, Ann-Marie Dunne and her husband Eric of Hanson, Paul Tonello of Whitman and Julie Whitmore and her husband Cary of East Bridgewater; her brother Robert Mahoney of Whitman and her sisters Florence Keras of Falmouth, Helen Vaughan of Plymouth. She is also survived by her sixteen grandchildren and one great granddaughter as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Agnes Brennan.
Her funeral service will be held Monday April 15 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 9 AM in Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Sunday April 14 from 3-6 PM.
